Are you the owner of the Tools business? I thought it was Patrick. Are you Patrick? Anyway, if you are the owner, you know you had that sign in the street about 6-8' away from the curb this afternoon (the street is quite wide at that point but it still is a city street) and aside from the sandwich sign itself being illegal, the sign was in the public right of way (the street).
The city is spending millions to make that area look nice to encourage other business in that area and to bring tourism to town which benefits us all. What you are doing there only benefits you and they are not going to allow you to keep trashing it up! If I was you I would make sure that you have the proper business operating according to your city business license and that it conforms to the State Board of Equalization parameters for business type and that you check the city signage code for all your signs. Throwing up sandwich signs on a regular basis on all the surrounding lots is illegal just like your 15' tall sign was. If you want to anger those at city hall, you are straight on a path to do just that.

Boop, Reality check why don’t you just leave the business owner alone and find something worth complaining about. I think it is because you couldn’t hack it and keep a business in downtown Petaluma. You sure seem to know a lot about the City Politics I bet you are an ex city employee or a current council member. I think Patrick hit the nail on the head and are a spouse of a city council member. That area is nothing special anyways the city spent millions to build a bus depot that isn’t used to its full usefulness another wonderful great Idea of the city of Petaluma. What a waste of money. So what if the business painted on the side of the building and had a sandwich sign advertising the business. It is so interesting that you say sandwich signs are so illegal I see them all over Petaluma so I guess you are wrong or other businesses are in the wrong I guess Boop you must patrol and turn in all the businesses with a sandwich sign. I guess I should call the city on Basin Street and Subways Sandwich sign right Boop?

Maybe the City Council Majority will approve some infill development projects to eliminate the problems like this little Tool Biz. Write to the Mayor & Council members to be pro business and not waste City $ on legal fees. This piece of property has submitted numerous project plans and have never been accepted.

My concern was the 15 foot tall tools sign which has been removed. You and your friends are keeping this alive by posting about all the new infractions coming from the Tools location.
Those of you that feel this business is a good look for the downtown are showing your complete lack of understanding of what the city is trying to accomplish in that area. Blight like that drives business away. On the other hand, look what they have done to those warehouses one block over.
Unless the sign ordinance has changed, all of those sandwich signs are illegal and it's only enforced when someone does something really, really stupid, like putting their sign in the street obstructing the right-of-way. Or, if a citizen falls over one and complains to the city, or hits one with a car (like the Tools sign that was in the street on Sat).

A citizen falls over one? Or hits one with a car? Wow, I've lived here all my life and cannot believe what people complain about - the NIMBY is getting outta control here!
Would you be complaining if the signs were "ANTIQUES"?

Duh, yeah, that would be called ... an accident. If you put a sandwich sign in the street to advertise your business and a car hit it by accident, the blame would rest on the person who put the sign there.
"Would you be complaining if the signs were "ANTIQUES"?"
Absolutely. I would complain if it said "Nuns Giving Away Free Kittens Blessed By The Pope!"

News update -
We have a traffic mess on Washington Street -
Sandwich board v. car - guess who lost - news at 11
Do you actually believe some of the stuff you write?

Housing sales would be better - if not for that darn "TOOLS" sign driving away my buyers! That and no Target are the two main complaints!

Might be your attitude too. Really, when is the last time you sold a house?
If you don't like the legality issue with the sandwich boards, take it up with the city. All I know is that if someone is stupid enough to block the public street with their sign they don't have any respect for the law. And here you are...enabling them to keep breaking the law. As far as realtors go, you sound like you are a ways from the top ten in town ethics-wise.

Oh Boobyitbooby -
Perspective, please use all that energy of yours for standing up for more important causes - COTS, children who need mentoring, volunteering at animal shelters, delivering meals on wheels, visiting the elderly at rest homes, the war abroad, at home, etc. etc. etc.
I've seen too much suffering in this world - I just can't take you seriously!
Not to mention it's so very obvious you only want certain businesses of your liking in Petaluma (or would you prefer "Boobbityville"?) - so arguing with you is a lost cause -
I'm off to lunch - all this Sandwich talk is making me very hungry!

The Tool biz can get "amenesty" for his business this month and become legal (see today's article). There was not a contact phone # or dept. so he would have to find that info. on his own. Or you can have the City Council and Mayor hire the City Attorney to write some sort of legal letter and remove his business. As for signage, well just go in and tell the guy. That roadway will be improved once a project is finally approved. But where is our Community Development dept.?
