David Glass has not been a proven leader in this community. He acts with his own agenda and not the best interests of the City. His behavior during the Council meetings leaves something to be desired. Does he actually think he has the support of the City employees? Members of the community? Monday's meeting speaks volumes! What a major detriment this would be for our City if he was elected. I think I will move.
Add this to Glass's resume. From the Press Democrat, July 2, 2004, at the ground breaking for the new Kenilworth Junior High. This might be his campaign motto/pledge.....I finish what I start, or, My record speaks for itself, or, trust me, or maybe simple and to the point....you give me your money (say $22,000,000) and this town will get things done for you.
From the Press:
At the ceremony, Mayor David Glass thanked Regency Centers, the developer that bought Kenilworth Junior High school for $22 million and plans to raze it to make way for a shopping center and housing when the new school is finished. Regency went forward with the purchase though it has yet to obtain city approval for its project, Glass noted.
``The developer really made this happen, because nothing happens without money,'' Glass said.
Please don't send him back to the broadcast both! Monday's performance was mild compared to some of his previous performances. My personal best ties in with baseball. Hate the Dodgers, but anyone who watched Ron Cey walk couldn't help but laugh. So we have the infamous Council - Fairgrounds session and David is blathering all over himself on the air about the fairgrounds, but he has to get down to the afternoon Council meeting, so he leaves the air early. He storms into the chamber, signs in and does a perfect Ron Cey waddle up the aisle to start talking while catching his breath. The funny thing is I don't remember a single point (if any) made by him 'cause I simply couldn't stop laughing. I used to think he had a speech impediment, but have since realized he simply slurs everything from such a long history of talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. Sorry David, but I didn't sign on to purported Council's anti thin skinned Glass rule of saying nothing bad about anyone or someone who writes a cartoon to that effect.
What are you all afraid of? That someone who is not controlled by industry and developers will be calling the shots? That someone will be at the helm who can think of creative ways to preserve our city instead of shopping our way out of it? Reading this paper is like watching Fox news 24-7, and should be done with great scrutiny! Many political agendas are being pushed through using this paper and it's getting so obvious it's embarrassing! I so wish we had a real source for unbiased reporting in this town!
hmmm, a couple thoughts here. jczar....who are you insinuating IS 'controlled' by the development industry? interesting, your statement there, says a lot. what prompts the title "controlled by the industry and developers"?
another questions, what creative ways has glass "preserved our city"? how is trying to move forward with a review of a project "shopping our way out of it"? a property is designed (by the general plan and zoning ordinance) for development, folks are trying to follow those plans/zoning.....what is wrong with that? if it is wrong then why state it as such in the general plan/zoning?
i watch fox, cnn, msn, etc. and take it all with a grain of salt. if i don't like it i can tune out but i think i know enough to form my own opinion. you can always stop reading this paper or boards if you don't like it. it is funny, glass will attack the paper every chance he gets but then he goes on to use it when he needs it (opinion piece, etc.). kind of hypocritical isn't it?
jczar just registered today because Glass needs someone to protect him out here and guess what...it ain't gonna work. Kudos to the Argus for accurate reporting.
If Torliatt stopped walking quickly, Glass would break his nose. If you watch last Monday's meeting he almost went bezerk trying to protect the Mayor from having to discuss the Deercreek proposal.
He is not an honest person as 5th gen proves with Glass' own quote. Glass, Torliatt and Barrett are in lock step with their anti-business antics. Now he wants to be Mayor again? What will we get out of that? More outbursts? More dishonesty? I am absolutely amazed that he believes people like what he is doing. He has no grip on reality.

jczar. What is it about calling the Argus a Fox, ultra conservative mouthpiece? Since 2001 the Argus has been owned 100% by the NY Times which in a 2007 Rasmussen Report indicated that the public perception is 4-1 it has a liberal vs conservative stance. Our other local paper, the Press has since 1985 also been wholly owned by the NY Times.
I don't watch Fox news, I'm a CNN junkie. I'm also registered Independent. So let me explain why I think those of us expressing a frustration, or as you said "fear" with Glass and his cronies.
Look at my statement above regarding Glass and the Fairgrounds. His ranting was a lease extension would allow development that would be outside the protection of our newly created general plan and operating outside that plan would be bad. The Regency Center and Deer Creek are specifically provided for in the general plan for the proposed developments. So what are you talking about David? If a project comes to the city, like you invited Regency, and it fits squarely within the general plan, why aren't you actively promoting it? The list goes on. 70% of Petalumans vote for a crosstown connector at Rainier, but you oppose it. And it goes on, and on.
