I have a very hard time with full-time school or nothing. Is there anyone interested in schools where elementary children can go part-time? We have an independent study program for young children. And then we have full-time school. Once you are in junior high, you can do the part-time deal...but as my daughter approaches school approaches I get more and more frustrated with the lack of options. There is a homeschool charter that offers classes once a week in Santa Rosa. Why not three days a week, or mornings only? I know so many parents that have a problem with the 30-35 hour work week for children, and as an education specialist I can tell you straight out it is quality, not quantity that matters.
I was stoked about the dual immersion (my daughter is bilingual) but then I just couldn't imagine full-day kindergarten for her. If you have any constructive thoughts, let me know, or if you agree...maybe Sonoma County will see a new Charter in the future, a mix between homestudy and class time. It would save the districts not having to have each student in full-time. |
