They are opening in Theatre Square this summer, on the ground floor right at the corner of D Street and the Boulevard. They advertise over 20 different kinds of "specialty" tequila at the "long bar" and apparently have other locations in Chico and Lake Tahoe. Has anyone been to these other locations? What have you heard?

I wondered too. Called Chico for the Tahoe address and was advised it closed some time ago and Petaluma is next to go on line. Reviews, for college town, seem mostly positive
I have been to the one in Chico, tequila is good, food is good too. They have a taco bar, almost like a brunch bar, where you order you omelette's on the fly. Pick your ingredients and eat it fresh.
Depending on when Basin Street (so don't hold you breath) starts improvements, they should open late August to September.
The sooner the better!

Sorry it took so long to respond...we will be opening in late summer or very early fall-it all depends on construction.
Our menu will have all fresh ingredients with as much local product as possible. Traditional Mexican favorites along with an emphasis on seafood and coastal style Latin cuisine make for an approachable menu that won't have an item on it over $20, with most entrees in the $9-$15 range.
The Taco Bar is a place where you can interact with the cook as he or she prepares tacos and quesadillas to order at the grill in front of you.
We will offer over 50 different kinds of tequila, local and Mexican beers, a comprehensive and affordable wine list, and the best margaritas around.
We can't wait to start up and put our best effort forward for Petaluma. Thanks for the interest!
My wife and I dined at Tres Hombres last week. After much anticipation we were very disapointed with the food quality. The chips were stale ( chewy ) and tasted like they were a day old. My wife ordered a "Cheese Enchillada" and a "Chile Releno". Both arrived sitting in a 1/4" puddle of deep fryer fat. I played it safe and ordered the "Quesadilla" and a "Caesar salad". The Quesadilla came with a teaspoon of guacamole and sour cream and a slice of lime so small I had trouble sqeezing it. The salad was plaine romaine with " Chipotle Dressing that tasted like the Zesty dipping sauce for Burger Kings onion rings. We wanted to like this place. They need to hire a chef or kitchen manager who will take ownership of the food and instill some pride in the cooks. You only get one first impression.

I'm sure there are kinks to be worked out at Tres Hombres. The best thing the owner can do (and I think he reads this board) would be to offer you a complimentary dinner for two. Hopefully your next dining experience will be better than the first! Bon appetit!
Haven't tried Tres Hombres yet. Couldn't get in one night we tried. Ended up at Velasco's with a very nice meal. But have heard similar bad experiences about the food at Tres Hombres. Might wait a while to try it. The new Chinese place on Western, on the other hand, put out a nice meal, not exactly SF quality but good.
Hey Fly, sorry you had a bad experience. Actually surprising!
Being that I am in the square where Tres is located, my wife and I frequent there often. We have not had a bad experience (even though they are new) I have had the fish tacos probably 6 times now - love them!
We also get a lot of people coming over to my store for Gelato after dinner there. For the most part I have heard good things.
They do have chef's - Dan and Gray! Maybe it was a bad night, but hopefully you will give it another shot.

To those of you who responded to my negative comments about Tres Hombres you are probably right. I might give them another chance in 6 months and let them get the place dialed in.

We had an nice meal there. The good, service was attentive, drinks were very tasty, and the quesadilla was good. My tacos were good, but over priced. The bad, chips were a disappointment, the salsa tasted canned, and yes, the lime slices were skimpy! pls....limes are inexpensive.
Disappointed for those who have had a bad experience. Ours is much different. Look forward to Chef Gray's specials. Real Pacific fushion influence. If you are disappointed with menu items, definitely try the specials.
I have had all the Tacos there and have moved on to Gray's Specials. Last night I had one of the best cioppino's ever! Being I work in the Square, I get to try his specials often, but the cioppino was so good I was fighting my wife off.
So the next time you go in, look for the specials on the board and if they are not there just ask, you'll be glad you did.

A girlfriend and I ate at Tres Hombres last night and I was less than impressed. Not only were the chips poor quality but the guacamole tasted like some store bought package....there is no way it was from real avocados. As for the food, we had the coconut shrimp appetizer to start and they looked and tasted like a bag of frozen cheap shrimp. As for our meal, likewise nothing to write home about...actually I would say it is worthy of writing about to make sure people do not waste their time at this place!
