Re: The Couch's Etc. Location: Would love to see a big, fun, local restaurant "similar to" The Spaghetti Factory atmosphere. Maybe some on-site home-made pasta, locally grown tomatoes, vegetables, basil and garlic, cheese from Spring Hill Farm, bread from Barbara's Bakery with Clover Butter, Petaluma roasted coffee and locally baked desserts.
And if they could duplicate the famous Spaghetti with Brown Butter and Mizithra Cheese recipe, that would be terrific!
This town already has enough great Italian- Graziano's, Cucina Paradiso. I liked the farmer's market/ferry building idea. But Powell's is right, in a 10,000 square foot place there will need to be a business that can afford the rent.
Yes, we have great Italian, but who wants to pay $100 for (a-la-carte) dinner for a family of four? Graziano's and Cucina Paradiso are nice for a date, but they are not fun and family-oriented. P.S. You can Google that recipe! G&G carries mizithra cheese.
NOPE! Here's a few: Zazzle, McNear's, Flipper's, Volpi's, Sea, Julians, Blu, Pinky's! I could go on and on- we have GREAT food here and I have friends who come from SF and Marin County to EAT here. We are not lacking in dining choices. I don't understand why people want the generic choices you can get in anytown, USA. I'd rather eat a good meal at home than mediocre Italian in a strip mall. Let's have a little more vision for our town.
I wholeheartedly agree we have excellent restaurants here in Petaluma- there is no reason to travel elsewhere when planning a date with your spouse.
but....
as a family of five, we are hesitant to spend $100 for dinner on a night when my wife and I are too tired from working and commuting to make dinner. There are restaurants that can provide good decent inexpensive food for families and that is certainly something we could use here in Petaluma.

I definately am all for food on the cheap and when I can't get to making dinner I get a take and bake pizza from Fregene's or burritos/ enchiladas/tacos from Solo Pollo (on Wilson St.), Namaste Indian Food. There are always great deals from the sunshine mailer too. Honestly... a meal at The Old Spaghetti Factory/ Olive Garden/ TGIF is usually $10 an entree- there are places here offering food at that same price that already exist. Ultimately this is a matter of preference...

As a family of four we agree with you, except the part that Petaluma doesn't have enough... adding to OlEast's list: 4th and Sea Walnut Park Grill Velasco's New Yorker Pizza Dempsey's Boulevard Cafe Pizzicato Urapan Chunky's Cotija Lolita's Semolina Lyon's Daphne's Thang Long Star of India
