Out of pure starvation, I stopped at G&G on Sunday afternoon to see what they had in the hot portion of their deli. Their pork fried rice looked appealing, so I ordered a small container of it. Now, I am by no means a "Chinese" food pro, but this had to be some of the best, if not THE best Chinese style pork fried rice I have ever had. Fluffy rice, scallions with a bite, large chunks of eggs, tiny shreds of carrot, and pork that was juicy and flavorful.

Next time you need a side dish for dinner, stop by G&G and pick up some fried rice. It's well worth the $3/pound price.

Not surpising that a store owned by the Gong family has good Chinese. However, one would have to venture in to that disgusting leper colony to get it. I'll pass.

Just my personal opinion here, I have yet to experience decent Chinese in any grocery store setting and G&G's is well, yuck! Greasy, and pretty tasteless.

The rest of the store is great.

Whippis, I don't understand your "leper colony" comment, care to elaborate?

At my house we call the G AND G the GAG because everytime we have been forced by necessity to go in there we have to hold back our desire to vomit. The place smells bad, is ugly, the enitre left side should be quarantined, the customers and employees are generally pretty skanky.

Wow, that's pretty strong.

I have frequently shopped there since the day they opened. Never smelled any off odors, employees that I have encountered are clean and pleasant, maybe not always the brightest crayon in the box but certainly adequate for a local grocers.

Every store has their share of "harmless character" customers and plain unpleasant patrons too, I have not experienced an abundance of either of those at G&G.

Never really had a truly bad experience with either the products (Chinese food notwithstanding) or service from the employees.

Now, honestly, they could turn on the A/C on warmer days for the comfort of the customer as well as the staff.

G&G is certainly not my favorite store, that would actually be Oliver's in Cotati, they are a bit pricey for everyday shopping but the deli area, wine, cheese, salad bar, hot foods, all rock. A close second for me is TJ's here in town.

For a local grocery, with ample variety, reasonably priced and close to home G&G beats Safeway, Lucky and the new Raleys for my money.

The one store I will not set foot in is the Lucky's on Pet. Blvd. that store needs a lot of work....both product and service wise!

EXACTLY Kat Big Grin

I love Oliver's Market in Cotati, but damn ther're PRICY! I got there now and again to get some items....their bakery is outstanding.

I have never had a problem with any stinky stuff at G&G. There is only one employee that I don't particularly care for all the rest are pretty helpful and nice. I've tried their hot foods....maybe it was just the batch, but the fried rice I had was salty (and I put salt on darned near everything). Their fried foods can be a little on the greasy side.

Perhaps Whippis is just more sensative than you and I Smiler

Luckys on the Blvd.....the only thing they change there is the sign out front from Albertsons to Luckys, the inside stays the same. Ya, the place could use a "makeover"
