I walk by or drive by this empty storefront and wonder just how high the rent must be. It's been vacant for so long. This is a prime location and would be a great spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Hmmmmmm, maybe Sizzler, LOL. Or maybe Old Chicago could expand out to include eat in.
Yes, a pizza restaurant would be great. On one level. A family-oriented spot. Something fun where you could hold team parties for the local kid's sports teams. We don't have a good sit-down pizza place in any of the big shopping centers on this side of town (Washington Square, Plaza, Marketplace or Gateway). Pinky's II -- come on over!
If you go back far enough this site use to be a sizzler and why it went out we do not know. Yes I would like to see sizzler back but now the site is not large enough. Was also sorry to see Togo go as they were the best for sandwiches and would love to see them back.

I discovered one down in Larkspur that's still open a month or so ago. I don't know that I'd make a special trip, but if I were in the area. It's located across from the ferry terminal near Bed Bath and Beyond.
Togo's closest spots are Larkspur & Santa Rosa unfortunately.
It is not just lowering rent, many places will give you a few months rent for free, low rent in the first year. It is still location, location, location - foot traffic. You still have to build it out, you still have overhead, it is not cheap to run a business in Calif. It is a tough time to start a new business right now. BUT, if you have the right model, it can be a good time to start.
It would be wonderful to see more landlords work with prospective tenants to get things moving. Small Business is what I feel is going to turn the economy around, it is just going to take some time.

Anyone remember The Haven in San Francisco? Their sandwiches were incredible. Thick whole-grain homemade bread piled high with sprouts and veggies. My favorite was the Groovy Grain.
