Has anybody tried the new Grill yet? I would think that in a couple of weeks that the grills will be well seasoned by then, and not have that metallic taste still as new ones have a tendancy to do.
And if you have eaten there, any suggestions as to what to order?
I just ate there the other night(11/11/2007). I got the cheese burger, my wife got the philly cheese steak and my sons got the chicken tenders and the foot long hot dog. We also got some of those sweet potato fries and some onion rings. First, the cheese burger was not that good. It was incredibly dry and flavorless. There was no sauce to speak of on there, and the meat was totally dry. I was very disappointed. I ate a bite of the philly cheese steak and thought it was pretty good. The bread was nice and soft and the filling was flavorful. Don't order the chicken tenders. They were totally derivative and boring. The best item by far was the foot long hot dog. It was sliced in half and grilled nicely. They only put onions and tomatoes on there, but it was really tasty! The sweet potato fries were OK, but the beer battered onion rings were good. The prices were reasonable, with the total cost for the four of us (without drinks) coming to about $25 (without tip). Overall though, I was underwhelmed. Next time I'm craving food like this I'll go to 4th and Sea and get their pork sammich!
Well, as much as I wanted to like this place, I'm going to have to call it a "near miss". Yes, the burgers are pretty good (and the beer-battered onion rings were very good) but truth be told, you can get most of the same items around the corner at 4th and C. Only 4th and C's are of slightly better quality, and often for a buck or two less, especially if you want the sides.
And a word of warning... the sprinklers next to the sidewalk go on automatically at 4PM or so. If you're sitting at one of the two tables out front when this happens, you will get your feet wet. As well as your purse, or any belongings you may have set on the ground next to you.
I went back to this place, and would like to upgrade my initial so-so review to a thumbs up. First time I went I had the patty melt, which I found underwhelming, but this time I tried the Walnut Park Burger with bleu cheese and the works, which was the proverbial BOMB. Delicious, as were the oregano garlic fries. I'd like to reiterate that their onion rings are awesome, and point out that I didn't get my feet wet this time so maybe they resolved the sprinkler issue.
I've also heard that their milkshakes are stellar, but have yet to try one myself.
And, Billyverde, you're close to the fire station house in case you get a heart attack from those scrumptious burgers and fries. That site made good burgers when it was Quinleys, and apparently still does.
Tried Walnut Park Grill twice now. Very good blue cheese burgers. Fries ok, but sweet potato fries are excellent. Philly cheese steak sandwich was good, but skimpy. Hot wings with Franks!!!
Wished I got the cobb - saw someone who had it and it looked good. Did not have the ice cream but the shakes looked good.
Service was good the first time, but a little rough today. But it was busy, and maybe some new people working.
Wished they asked if we were eating there - we did, but they packaged it to go, and too much waste.
