I think that Gohan over on McDowell is superior to Hiro's. Hiro's used to be great but their service is absolutely terrible. Gohan sometimes has the same problem. When I go out for sushi, I don't want to be served by unknowledgable teenage girls who can't even pronounce the dishes half the time.

I've heard that service at Hiro's is very inconsistent. More specifically, it's great when the owner is there (tall guy in suspenders, usually sitting near the door) and abysmal when he's not.
Still, their Dynamite Roll is to die for. Holy crap it's good!
Gohans get's my vote any day of the week. Some of the servers may be young, but they are smart enough to ask a knowledgeable co-worker if they can't answer a question. We eat there at least twice a month, hands down the best in Petaluma.
i agree on all the positive comments regarding Gohan. the servers are always nice, and we love sitting at the bar and chatting with the sushi chefs. Hiro's is way overrated and don't even get me going on the horrible service at Kabuki.
