I am new to Petaluma 360 and was wondering the website when I noticed the green living section.
I hope this doesnt look like to much of a plug for myself as I own my own printing company and for me being green is essential. I offer green printing using soy based inks, and 100% recycled papers. Just food for thought, if you or your company is interested in greener business cards, brochures, flyers etc. please contact me at tom@grapevinegraphics.com And really, Im sorry for the plug but its important to me that I get my company out there and known as a greener printer for the area. |

when i did some research into the compostability of newsprint, i was told that soy based printing ink still has a percentage of potentially toxic stuff in it. true?

It still has a VOC content as well as a flashpoint and each ink has its own components.
Soy based however has been around for around for awhile as osha and bay area air quality put strict and needed guidlines on methods of printing before I even started my own company. The printing trade has become very aware of the need to help in any way it can to help protect our earth and hardly any of them adhere to it because there arent enough strict rules yet to make most printers use recycled materials etc. I can say that I just did a big job for the city of Santa Rosa and they preferred to use a 60% recycled stock vs. a non recycled stock that would have cost them less. The printing industry as well as a lot of other manufacturing companies are really stepping up. Some Im sure play the game and others Im sure really care. I care. I have a 1 year old whom I want to make sure has a cleaner earth than I had when I was a kid watching an Indian crying at the trash on a roadside commercial.... |
