Has anyone heard of when or if Representative Woolsey is planning on holding Town Halls regarding the pending Healthcare Reform measures currently cicrulating Capitol Hill?
I checked her website and could not readily find this information, so I've emailed her office, but haven't heard yet. I encourage everyone interested in this (and really, if you're not, what the heck are you doing???) to contact her and inquire as well. This is very important legistlation and I would expect her to address her constituents during the August recess... ...and please, if she does hold a Town Hall let's raise the level of discourse on this issue, okay? A rational exchange of ideas is the life-blood of a democracy. There's been so much news about people disrupting the meetings with shouts and shoving and that really doesn't do anything but further push the two sides apart from one another. Thanks! |

Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich (along with 63% of the republican party) are saying that Obama will have death squads going after seniors and handicapped to get them out of the way to help pay for the new health care.
Why are Americans so dumb? Did Kruschev slip a vial of dumb juice in our water supply years ago and he is now making good on his promise to destroy us from within? I repeat, why are American republicans so dumb that they would rather see our country fail than to let up on their pointless attack because Obama is president? I am sickened by these people. This is how the Germans lost their country to extremists in the 1930-40s. Put Palin in goosestepper boots and it's 1939 Munchen all over again. |

Apparently she had the meeting.
Just curious, anyone know how the people who attended were chosen? |

WTF is with the idea of having secret town hall meetings ? Is this intended to be on TV or something? I find it disturbing that a politician would go for such production and speculated opportunity of malfeasance.
To Boop: The "Government Of the People" LOL HAHA? employs some of the brightest psychological and marketing minds.(so do dems..i know, so get over it trolls) And of course they work on alerting the most virulent of fears in people so they join in, lockstep, to the march of a speeding bullet train with no one at the controls. That is, until, their pockets are picked clean by the big companies; who each and every moment try to sell them the solution to their problems and manufactured fears. |

Not watching the news much, eh? And who said it was secret? The crack internet research team of "The Watcher"? With all the loony tunes appearing at town hall meetings channeling Glen Beck, that's actually not a bad idea. Republicans are making me sick by their behavior. They have turned into home grown terrorists; filling out the warning of our country being destroyed from within. |

Not at all! Been camping, visiting friends around California and helping a friend in Santa Cruz deal with the Lockheed fire. |

I'm sorry Miss Boopitydoobiedo but I was only asking a question.
I take it you were informed. Great! Was there a billboard? A radio spot? An ad in the newspaper? And did you attend? The gist of my post was I just wanted to know how this announcement was distributed as I and many folks I know (as well as the original poster) were not aware of the event. I would like to participate in the next one if possible, hence my curiousity and question. |

The last time I looked Democrats had a veto proof Senate and overwhelming majority in the House. It was the Senate Democrats telling the President they didn't have the votes, and, the House Democrats threatening to walk away from his health care proposals. There is a very valid argument going on within Democrats with the blue dogs asking how do we pay for this and the "progressives" saying a public option or nothing. The Press Democrat today had some tough love for Woolsey and Thompson. It is the ludicrous comments from people like boopdity, that are keeping us away from having meaningful town meetings and discussions about how to fix our system. And as far as being against anything simply because it is President Obama's plan, I think the House is kicking around four or so plans, the Senate hasn't even got a plan out of committee, and, I defy anyone to tell me what the President's plan IS! If someone would be kind enough to outline what the President's plan is, then we can be critical of those that oppose it. One commentator probably summed it up best saying that the mistake Clinton made was developing a plan behind closed doors and then dropping it on the public/congress. Obama is making the exact same mistake in reverse, he has abdicated the entire process to Congress and is out selling a plan no one has a clue what it is. |

Lordy, what power I have 5thgen! I had no idea I was such a force. I had thought it was idiotic comments coming from rabid right wingers asking for Obama's birth certificate, tea bags and death panels for seniors, and other drivel from the republicans that was holding things up, not only nationally, but locally as well. I would rather have a few blue dog democrats to deal with rather than the rabid dog anti-American republicans. What has been going on is that Obama has taken a higher path and tried to include the republicans in on the process, but they can't share like the little spoiled brats they are. Get over it repubs- you LOST the election, HA HA HA!!! So, now that the repubs have remained repugnant, we are set to go it alone and Grassley and his ill ilk can go poof in the wind. You repubs are the most unpatriotic group ever assembled on this soil. With all your lies and constant obstructions, you are ruining this country. I really am thinking about moving from the country of my birth because of what you rabid repubs have done and are doing to the country. It used to be annoying but now it is simply disgusting. I don't like you guys. Really. Plus, you guys are fighting against health care that you would benefit from. How idiotic is that? Glen Beck and Rush have your short minds so wound up you would vote against a winning lottery ticket placed in your hands. Duh... |

Some follow up on this:
I went to the town hall meeting last evening and came away with a question: Is this really about health care reform or is the issue really about insurance reform? The cries I heard were that people and businesses (and doctors) either can't affford current insurance rates or that they are denied coverage with little or no alternative. In the proposal it has been said that the government would offer a low-cost insurance alternative. If true, it's an alternative not a mandate. So who loses on that? Well in theory the insurance companies for one since most people would be attracted to a lower premium for the same coverage. However you as the average citizen would have the choice of go with the government option or stay with your current insurance carrier. So based on that is this really about the "state" of health care (which the title infers but is really another topic altogether) or providing medical insurance coverage for low-income people and businesses? Many folks in the medical profession were clamoring that the reform is bad for them. How so? The comments about "Kaiser-like" medical care doesn't seem to be applicable since again, people would have a choice. On the "death squads", well if you're concerned about some Washington bureaucrat determining your coverage guess what? An insurance bureaucrat is doing that right now. Additionally yes, the less money you make the fewer the choices, but at least you get one. Another observation: Why do folks persist in politicizing the issue as some were last night? This is not a Democrat vs Republican issue. This is about providing coverage regardless of party affiliation. Also, how do we pay for it? Well how did we pay for the wars? Iraq (from what we were told) cost us 20-30 billion a month. Afghanistan? I don't even know. Wouldn't even half that money on a monthly basis cover this? Finally (and once again), shouldn't the title of this issue really be "Insurance Reform"? Health Care Reform seems like an entirely different topic. Just asking. |
