I heard it again last night (sunday), right at midnight. It doesn't bother me usually, but at midnight? Now i think they are just trying to be annoying.

I heard it too. I have to wake up early on Monday to go to work and keep the economy floating. I thought I heard actual rail sounds also. I doubt he's hauling lumber so this guy should just quit before it loses it's novelty charm and just becomes a public nuisance.

Well I don't think it's a very good idea either. I wasn't trying to assert such. I was just pointing out a little background for everyone reading the thread. quote: There's already too much traffic without some old fart slowing everything down and blowing the horn for no reason.
You didn't move to town in the last five or ten years did you? And for what it's worth, you're going to be hearing train horns very soon... actually on the rails because the railroad is being put back into service whether you like it or not, so you should probably get used to it now. It'll save you a big Maalox bill if you do.

So someone's got a tractor that's used for pulling floats & such that has a train horn.
At last years Butter and Eggs Day parade, I was over by Walnut Park where the enterants were lining up. I heard at least 5 or 6 tractors blast train horns like it was nothing. I had fingers in my ears and it was still painful. I felt sorry for all of the children and babies who were obviously in pain from it. We do have a noise ordinance here in Petaluma, so where were the police? It is clear that there are a number of inconsiderate jerks in our town with these train horns and seem to love annoying people by blasting them off. I have heard these train horns at all hours of the day at all days of the week. I do not think that they are from "the trolley guy". Unless he has one on his truck or something, he is a scapegoat here.

Some people have said they hear it early or really late at night, well there is a large lifted Ford pickup with one of these horns that likes to scare people walking down the street. He scared the sh*t out of my dog and i thought my eardrums were gonna blow out. I even saw him honk at someone from blocks away once and you can tell its a train horn. If you see this a**hole blowing this horn at night report his a**!

Guys with lifted 4x4s are compensating for something small in their pants. Guys with lifted 4x4s and train horns on their trucks are compensating for lack of anything in their pants. Poor guy.

I ENJOY the train whistles. Makes you appreciate that you still have good hearing!
