On July 21, 2008, the Board of Supervisors will vote again on the Dutra Asphalt and Recycling Facility - 2:30 P.M., 575 Administrative Drive, Santa Rosa. Those opposing the plant won a Battle in June when a straw vote of 3-2 opposed it, but the War rages on. County has just released a staff report for the hearing - one paragraph on the straw vote and two pages of New or Revised conditions of approval! There are now 145 of them in 28 pages of fine print. If the Supervisors change their minds (again) and do approve the plant, who will enforce these 145 conditions? Does Dutra have a track record that suggests they will self-enforce? The fact that there are 145 conditions of approval (by itself) suggests the EIR has signficant errors and omissions. We need those opposed to this plant to show up again at the meeting. We can preserve the wetlands for birders from all over the country, especially now with the opening of the additional three miles of nature trails in Ellis Creek (July 31st). They can generate millions in revenues, including sales tax locally. Dutra will not even pay sales tax since the state (read CalTrans) does not pay sales tax. With a staff of 5-10 emplyees how could one compare the potential revenue generated by Dutra compared to 150,000 visiting birders - (the Arcata wetlands draw that annually)?
