During the first nine months of this year, Wetland Docents donated 5,300 hours of public service to Shollenberger Park, Alman Marsh and Ellis Creek. For grant purposes, volunter hours have a putative value of about $20 an hour, so over $100,000 in free services were provided the city. What are some of services?

1. Habitat restoration - replacing noxious weeds with native plants.
2. Providing guided park tours for residents and tourists.
3. Educating our local school children about the value of wetlands and its native creatures.
4. Providing park clean-ups.
5. Posting educational material and photographs.
6. Doing scientific research (the heron/egret colony, Tree Swallows, etc.).
7. Publishing a bird species list made available at the park.
8. Erecting bird houses, and maintaining them.
9. Promoting the beauty of our wetlands to the outside world.

We are always looking for new docent volunteers and provide training. See our website - Link for more information on how you could become a park docent.
