There is a small left-hand turn lane into the Redwood Gateway Center (directly across from Pier One Imports). The visibility of oncoming traffic is BLOCKED due to three trees which were planted in the meridian. I have e-mailed the city to remove these trees (they could transplant them elsewhere) but I have not received a response. How ridiculous to put trees where they almost totally block your vision of fast-moving vehicles. Be careful!!!
Good call! I too hope the city takes care of this before a serious collision occurs. What e-mail address did you use to contact the city person responsible? I assume it would be the director of public works, no?
Are we the only three people who have noticed this? Those threes won't mature for about 15 years and they are SUCH a hazard and have been since they were planted. My husband (who works for North Bay Construction who was one of the contractors who worked on the job) comments on them everytime we turn in there. Someday someone is going to get in a terrible accident, probably an elderly person or a kid....
I sent a message regarding the complaint to the Parks Dept. they are responsible for maintaining median trees. Let's hope there is enough revenue in the budget for a solution. Any City problems or praise should be sent to the City Manager's office or a Council member for a solution. The City maintains a great website of information too.
As a member of the Petaluma Tree Advisory Committee, I relayed your concerns to our contact at the Parks Department. Within an hour of receiving my request to look into it, the Parks Dept sent a crew out to prune the trees. It sounds like they will do more work later. He appreciated the heads up and I'm sure I speak for all of you in saying that we appreciate them moving this to the top of their list during the busy holiday shopping season. Thanks for speaking up about your specific concerns as well as your patience.

Petaluma's Parks & Landscape Manager, Ron DeNicola is the one to thank on the tree trimming. His crew had recently trimmed the trees and they are young and fast growing! He appreciated the message that the trees were in need of another trim! With the revenue tight in our park budget, it would be helpful if the tree committee made a list of the trees that need some TLC. Petaluma is going to need lots of volunteers to help in all areas of the City that are normally maintained by staff. Especially the parks!!!! I am proud to volunteer!

76 Queen, thanks for your enthusiastic offer of help. If you forward me a list of trees that you feel need TLC, I will bring it up in the January Tree Committee Meeting for the staff to consider. They've been great about responding to things that come up between scheduled maintenance visits when staff is available. My email address can be found at this link: Thanks again for offering to help!

Since I'm the one that started this topic, I want to say thank you to the city for finally trimming the lower branches of these newly-planted trees. BUT ----> I still think these trees should be REMOVED and TRANSPLANTED elsewhere! There is really no good reason to even have those trees there. These three trees will only get bigger and since this is such a tight dangerous left-hand turn into the shopping center, full visibility of oncoming traffic is imperative. I truly hope there are no horrible accidents there.

KRRH, I will request this item be added to the January Tree Advisory Committee Agenda. I've found that things like this are often more complicated than they appear and our Citizen Committee is Advisory... not a decision making body... so it may take a few meetings to really understand the issues and possible actions. If you would like to attend the meeting, the agenda will be posted on the City Website at the link in my other post.

Tanya, I personally don't have any issues with any public trees, but I have heard a few complaints. I will certainly email and thank you for offering to pass on the info. I know how hard staff is working under these hard budget times! Thank you for all the committees you serve on the community benefits from the help of volunteers!
