Correct me if I'm wrong, the wash. st. fix could not of been done 4 years ago, the drawings were finished in the last year and the long awaited federal money finally became attainable. Also of course the council is right, rainier needs to be built, especially with the location of the hospital and the jc expansion buit to allow 12,000 students etc.... Rainier would've solved the washington st. dilema if built long ago.

King you are correct. The East Washington interchange project has been in the works for years and it was championed by Healy and Harris in their stints as Council SCTA appointees before Glass. The same is true of the Old Redwood interchange and over crossing improvements. Social Justice- do you really think CalTrans could operate so quickly to get a project online within a year?? CalTrans pace is slower than a sloth.
I hear the spin as well... but lets be reasonable!! (not to mention factually correct!) Rainier is a city need, dictated by the last two General Plans and stymied by those who don't want change. The latest tactic seems to be to make it as expensive as possible in the hopes it becomes financially untenable... who knows, maybe that will finally kill the project everyone else wants.... |

Mr. Kingo1, I didn't know any Federal Funds were going towards the E Wash Imp, I thought it was Redevelopment, Measure M and some from CALTRANS . Did we get some stimulus fundsm if so that is good news. Re Rainier: The new General Plan says at N McDowell & Rainier the LOS in the morning will go from A to D and evening from B to E,. Can you tell me where it says that is a traffic improvement? I don’t understand how it will improve traffic where the Hospital is and I haven’t seen a traffic problem at the SRJC with the additional students. Thanks for explaining it to me. |

This discussion is titled City priorities askew? Perfect title for the Nov. 2nd meeting. Here is the agenda.
Link Staff report for City budget will be available on Thursday. |

The traffic problem is not at the jc(which hasn't even reached near capacity for enrollment), it's on washingtons exits and washington street itself by students trying to reach the school, including the left turn lane from washington onto so. mtn. pkwy. Rainier is in the general plan also to have faster access to the hospital for emergencies etc... not to alleviate traffic at the hospital. I also said wahington st. would improve if rainier is built, not rainier and mcdowell will improve. Lastly a new rainier or any other crosstown connector does not improve traffic miles away at a jc etc... it improves traffic at other crosstown connectors and provides better access. |
Also, the approved General Plan anticipates more congestion by lowering the allowable level of service (LOS) at key intersections. This was a policy decision. Rather than pave over paradise (quoting some lyrics) by enlarging existing roadways to mini-freeways, we purposely chose to sit a little longer in traffic and at intersections.
Again, as for Rainier, it was anticipated since 1962... the construction budget at one time was $9M... it was killed outright by the last 'Progressive' Council majority (in between battling Lafferty's neighbors and battling the expansion of the Novato narrows). Rainier is a needed cross-town connector. We only have so many ways to traverse a community sliced in two by a major freeway. If you add in the interchange, it alleviates 20% or more of the traffic from McDowell/East Washington. I look forward to the East Washington fix and the Old Redwood fix and the start of the Novato narrows fix....and some day, I look forward to driving across town via Rainier as well. |

To 4thgen, for your bathroom tile, there is Shabo Tile and Stone. You might also check the flooring places to see what kind of tile they carry. For your bathroom lights, there is Petalumen's Lighting Co. Both are located right here in Petaluma and are locally owned and operated.
Regarding a vanity and sink, the only places I could come up with are Orchard (low end) and the Kitchen & Bath design center on Petaluma Blvd which is at the high end. I don't believe there is anything in between. At least you can spend some of your money in town, if you want to do so. |

Get over Rainier Cross Town Connector. It ain't gonna happen! He costs keep escalating and are out of sight!
On Monday the City Council has to deal with another $2M in the toilet. By the time the economy picks up and we get back to normal (what ever that is) the cost of a Rainier Connector will have doubled again. Isn't it nice that even though the city is another $2M in the toilet that we can STILL afford to keep on killing cats. And I STILL haven't heard on how that ordnance has cost the city tens of thousands of dollars to bring to fruition.....but.....I can tell you that as the ordnance remains, it will cost the city tens of thousands of dollars to trap and kill cats. A city employee must be let go in order to support that ordnance. The only person on the city council that has any common sense is Harris. |
While David is probably being truthful, he is inaccurate. Mike Healy has never supported the Rainier interchange and cross town connector.
When he was the City Council Liason on the SCTA he refused to support the project leaving Mike Kerns high and dry. Healy had his photo taken by the PD on the Corona overpass suggesting the we have a building moritorium in Petaluma until such a time as the Highway 101 congestion was dealt with. I for one am tired of these career politicians who twist the truth to obtain their political aspirations. Healy for Supervisor? Just say no. |
Healy for Supervisor? Just say no.
froggy, we agree.....now....what about the OTHER career politician....Pam Torliatt? Is that another NO? I hope you're consistant. STILL nothing from David on how the feral cat ordnance cost the city tens of thousands of dollars....Tisk, tisk. |

d210337 - the concept of building Rainier was very real and part of the move of Hillcrest Hospital and doctor offices from the to Rainier area which resulted in all of the medical developed in that area of Professional drive and Lynch Creek while allowing effective access from all parts of town.
Sorry, I wasn't real clear. The medical center of town had been in the far west El Rose area with terrible traffic access and almost impossible for those on the east side to use the services. So the concept was to move the medical center of town to the Rainer area with a well thought out traffic flow.
Also, one of the reasons for relocating the Police Station to where it is now, was for that same cross town connection. |
5thgen, my dentist is just off El Rose. I leave my east side home 20 minutes before my appointment and I'm there with five minutes to spare, every time, no matter what time of day. Rainier is a folly.
d210333 Well, now we know. Glass is so confident that Torliatt is going to win the Supervisor race that he's alread tossed his hat in the ring for Mayor. Healy, is he gonna run for Mayor against Glass or run for Supervisor against Torliatt? Personally, I will not vote for any of them for any office any longer, even if they ran unopposed. |
You know, I actually agree with you here. But guess again on who I am. |
Michael:
The City Council in 2005 voted to increase compensation by an unbudgetted $4 million which has bankrupted Petaluma. I will never vote in favor of any of those councilmembers. |
