Wake up Petaluma! I don't know where you were last night, but I was at the "Petaluma-Land-of- Oz" planning commission meeting. And guess what??? We have water!! Wet, wonderful abundant water. So much water, that our Petaluma Planning Commission is approving a 6000 membership - three swimming pool health club in the face of a citywide-water-use crack down! Never fear all you water worriers, forget about those pesky water warnings you've been getting in the mail, disregard those goofy media reports that say California has water problems and PLEASE don't mention all that gobble-dee-gook about global warming - Petaluma's planning commission is in control. What difference does it make that the commission uses the same water consumption ratio to calculate a health clubs water consumption as they do to calculate a Bank of America's usage? The ratios are clearly printed on paper in some city book. That makes them right. Doesn't it? Sincerely Petaluma, put away those tiresome brochures about low flow shower heads and stop wondering about how many bricks to stick in the toilet, the planning commission said last night that Petaluma is fine. In fact, I learned that all new growth in Petaluma has been previously projected into the city's water plan, so it doesn't matter that our water supply appears low today, the projections say there will be enough tomorrow. Woo hoo! The commission doesn't mention any new sources, but rejoice Petaluma, and forget about common sense. Obviously, Petaluma's Planning Commission has simplified the water issue. If I'm not mistaken, we just need to buy a Basin-Street-backed-health-club-membership today and then when every lawn in Petaluma is brown tomorrow, we'll still be able to wash up in one of the new health club's three pools.

I believe the openings for applications for city commissions and committees will be posted soon in the Argus courier and on the City of Petaluma website:
http://cityofpetaluma.net/cclerk/application.html This water mystery baffles me as well... I suggest people apply for positions as they become available if they don't feel represented by the people serving on them. These positions are Council appointed- not elected, and not paid. |
