If I were a millionaire, heck even a thousandaire, I would buy land along the California coastline. I would specifically pick places that appeared to have been deforested either by fire or selective logging.I would plant mega numbers of coastal redwoods.Trillions!Of course, there would be no guaruntee that they would be respected by future generations but I think its time for a mass planting as well as an education campagne on a grand scale.
It should be obvious that these trees are the fastest growing, most resilient oxygen producing and co2 eating plants on the entire planet. They may not be the answer to all of our prayers, but a planting of that magnitude would send a strong message to the rest of the world and begin a chain of world wide plantings. In reality, its already begun in other countries where they have started massive tree plantings to combat global warming. The elite class of Californians, for all of their worldly appearances, can be fairly ambiguous when it comes to actually doing anything concrete for the environment. I guess the Dad O'Roaks and Samuel P. Taylors of this world are gone with the wind. Chipotle jr |

Redwood trees are beautiful, but be very careful if you decide to plant them in your front, side or back yards. They get VERY BIG and can damage your sidewalks or foundation.
That's why they belong in big open spaces. Someone on Maria Drive recently paid $5000 to have one removed from their front yard. Ouch. |

Do a little research, every lumber company out there replants there land, it's also a requirement for most cutting perrmits. No company is going to leave there land empty when they can reforest it and contine to make more money. Also, most public land in California that is distroyed by fire is replanted by either CALFIRE or the Federal goverment. I do agree we made a big mistake in the early 1900's in cutting down most of the old growth redwoods just to build decks.
