| My friend and coworker Roger asked me to take photos of the Cub Scouts' Pinewood Derby this year and I asked if I could enter a car. The Pinewood Derby is held every year by the Cub Scouts. Every scout gets the same block of wood, four plastic wheels , and four nails for axels. The Cub's cars are limited to 5 oz weight and a few other size restrictions. They have to use the official wheels and axels. Since I am not a Scout, I competed in the "Unlimited" class which allows 8 oz for weight, but still must use the same wheels and axels (although modification of the wheels is allowable). Of course, since Roger is the resident Electrical Engineer at work and I am the Mechanical Engineer, I had to pull out all the stops. If I made a half-assed car I was never going to hear the end of it. So I ended up spending way too much time on this thing, but it turned out pretty sweet, if I do say so for myself... |
