"Speakingformany" posted a comment about raceway noise on July 23, 2009. Others have commented about the noise; moving into certain neighborhoods w/o the raceway noise being disclosed, etc. I am looking for people who are bothered by this noise and believe that the raceway should have been disclosed to them when they bought into a neighborhood where the Saturday evening noise is unbearable. Please email me.

I agree, close the place down. I live all the way over by Casa Grande High and the noise is out of control, it's all you can hear. 90% of the people at the races are from out of town so why do we have to put up with it?

The same would hold true for the airport. I don't use the airport, but live directly in the path of planes taking off. I would be terribly disappointed if someone were to try and shut down the airport simply because those living around it lacked the common sense to understand that there would be noise.

If you're trying to get a class action suit together, I would think that the fairgrounds would be an unlikely target. The City of Petaluma doesn't have a noise ordinance and the liability resulting from a failure to disclose would have to fall the seller of each affected property, and only within two years of the sale.

If you shut the raceway down, where will the white trash among us go to congregate. Maybe they could join the degenerates at Putnam Plaza?

The raceway has been there for years. Yes, it makes noise but it is usually one night a week. And you can hear it all over town even into Penngrove. What is the fuss?

Where I live there are schools and no one disclosed to us the amount of traffic that happens between 8 & 8:30 and again around 3pm. Things like this happen. Either adjust to it or move. And remember buyer beware!

Yes buyer beware...but if you are not aware of the speedway and buy a home after the races are over for the season AND "neighborhood noise" is not disclosed to you by the sellers it sure does come as a BIG surprise when spring rolls around!
And yes, it may just be "one night a week" but it happens to fall on the one night a week that most "9 to 5'ers" would consider their night to relax, perhaps in their backyard?

Obviously when you moved to Petaluma you were unaware of the Saturday night races. Those have been going on forever..... You just get used to it. As a 4th generation Petaluman, its just a once a week deal so get over it. When will people moving to our "small town" just leave everything as it is. All I hear from you "newbies" are complaints about changing everything. One day its about the lights at McNear Park being to bright, therefore there are no more evening games (which mind you was the sole purpose for them to begin with). Then its the airport being to loud, then it will be the air stinks when they're spreading manure at the ranches on the outskirts of town ~ will we have to shut them down too?..... If you don't like it, move back to where you came from!

Right ON Enough!
I'm a newby, only 14 years here. I KNEW of the raceway because I used to come to the races BEFORE I moved here!

Ya, lets get rid of the race track....hell there's no taxes being paid now...so we don't need any more. The anit-anti-anti people won't let anymore business in, so we're stuck with what we've got....so getting rid of people that come and spend money in Petaluma at the speedway should be a wonderful idea if you want less and less tax base!

Should it have been disclosed when you purchased your home? Heck ya! That's between YOU and the SELLER....not the rest of us. Just because you didn't do your "homework" on the place where you laid down hundreds of dollars of your money is not the fault of the rest of us that enjoy the speedway. Its always someone else's falt, isn't it?

Instead of griping about it why the heck don't you take your family to the races? What? Ya afraid ya might like it? Its a small town thing, isn't that why you moved here?

Contact Matt Maguire.....you'll get a shoulder to cry on.......

Came home this evening around 9:30 and the noise from the race track was out of control, why do we have to listen to this crap? The whole Petaluma Valley is affected by a bunch of out of towners. I would love the Argus Courier to do an online weekly survey on this question and see what others think. Would the city listen if we voted it closed?

What makes you so sure that 90% of the people there are out of towners? Even if that were true, wouldn't that be good for the economy here?

The argus has done weekly surveys on: Target which the majority supported, new planning commision which the majority said no to, approving friedmans which a majority said yes to, so I think a survey would do nothing. In the end, you obviously moved here, live with it. Racing keeps many youths out of trouble locally, funny how all you see is the noise, have you ever thought about the benefits. I know it's summer when I hear the cars buzzing once a week. Get some music going in your backyard, kick back and enjoy the weather. Also god bless the firefighters who lost their lives down south doing their jobs.

We can definitely hear the raceway where we live (close to Casa Grande as well), but after almost 2 years of living here we have gotten used to it. As a matter of fact, it seems normal on a Saturday night. It would be sad to see that go and have something like Target replace it. If anything, I would like to see an addition of a field for a minor league baseball team. Let's keep Petaluma the great place that it has been for all these years. It is things like the raceway that brought us to P-Town and I would hate to see our little town turn in to a place like Rohnert Park.

The Argus did a story a few years ago that said most drivers and vistors to the races are from out of town, it was something like 90%. VERY few local kids go to these races. I've been here for over 20 years and have never known anyone who went. We all just pay the price.
