Curious how other people though this event went?
I for one was very disappointed, $45 for music that could be heard everywhere outside of the gates. $45 for no seats, but you could bring a blanket, to put where on the hot asphalt!! The wine was good, that area is where I spent most of my time because of the shade. Or I went outside the gated are and sat at Blu for food - listening to the music. They tried to have parking on the 4th floor without permission from Basin Street. They tried to illegally close C street. The PD and city works had to be called to open it. It was not communicated to the downtown merchants. Whoever headed this up, was disorganized and had no consideration for the downtown merchants. The idea of the event was great, the execution was laughable. Just my thoughts - what about you? |

I do believe it was "organized" by the Chamber of Commerce.
Not suprising then that it was such a mess. |
||||
|
Actually - the chamber helped coordinate it. It was organized by the booster club of Petaluma High Music Dept.
They are new to this obviously and have much to learn. |

Ah, well then I'll restate my previous post then....I do believe it was 'coordinated' by the Chamber of Commerce...(whatever that means)!!!
but organized by the booster club of the Petaluma High Music Department... So like most things that involve the Chamber, it was a mess. I think the onus really falls on them. (Since they're the ones who are supposed to be so well versed in all this) I wonder how much of a % they took of the profits from the booster club, for all their "expertise" |

I went to this event, and while I enjoyed myself, and appreciate all the effort the PHS booster put into this event, there was a lot to be desired.
The wine area was nice, but you could not hear the music. The music area was roomy, but no where to sit. (maybe some chairs and/or table with umbrellas would of been nice) To get to the food, you had to leave the paid area, w/o your wine, and it was quite a distance away from the main area. It was all too broken up. I hope it was sucessful, and continues, but maybe at a different location (like Lucceshi Park), and maybe get some one with event planning to volunteer. Great music, and hats off to PHS Music Boosters - I hope they raised $$ for their music program! (and congrats to Adobe Road winery in Petaluma for their sweepstake red!) |

As a merchant who is downtown, I too had mixed views. I think the idea is good, maybe the location is not the best. It was definitely not the most organized event.
It was nice to have it downtown and many merchants enjoyed increased activity in their shops. This was the booster clubs first attempt at something this big and hopefully they learned a lot. SuzyQ I have heard the same complaints from several people who attended. No seating, long music delays between sets. I did hear how wonderful the bands were, that the wine was great too. Like many merchants in the area, we are hoping for better communication from the booster club, the next time around. Will Powell's Sweet Shoppe So much chocolate, so little time |

Well, it turns out that
Basin Street, the 'credited sponsors' of the event, literally pulled the plug on allowing the Booster Club to use their electricity for the event despite having agreed to it way beforehand!! So at the last minute the Booster Club had to spend their own $$ to rent generators, to which Basin complained that the generators were 'too noisy'!!!! Real nice on their part. That's just cruel. When will Basin Street sell off everything they own here and go pillage Nevada? It sure wouldn't be soon enough. |
||||
|
Wow - ths is disgraceful on Basin Street's part! If this is true, then they should reimburse PHS and apologize! How stressful for them. |

I don't know how true that is. There may be some validity to that story, but as a merchant on Basin property I know there is more to it.
Due to the lack of communication (by many groups) certain merchants were asked at the last minute if they could use their power. Due to this communication, the tenant (who has to pay for the electricity) said no. They said no, because they were never informed or were never asked to be a part of the event. As I said earlier, there were some issues with this and hopefully all that were involved will learn. There is no one party at fault here, not the Chamber, not Basin and not the Boosters. So much chocolate, so little time |

Personally, I thought it was a fantastic event by a dedicated team of music education advocates and it can only get better as long as we continue to support them. It's the positive spirit of an event like this that makes me proud to live here.
