I am an employee at Petaluma Valley Hospital. Thankfully I am not one that was affected by the layoffs, but my wife did have her hours reduced which will be taking place in March; however, I do know many of the people that are to be affected by St. Joseph's decision.
There are many stories in the news about how bad the economy is, but my problem with St. Joes is the fact that this particular organization runs on about it's values and how we should interact with one another, but what they do not tell us is that these values do not apply to them and their interactions with its employees. If they did than they would have come to us and asked us what we might be willing to do to help the hospital meet its budgetary needs. I am sure that the managers did not decline their bonus' for the betterment of the hospital and I am sure that the individuals making their hundred-thousand dollar salaries did not take a slight pay cut to help the hospital either. For them it was easier to just lay people off. Their actions are not Just, nor an attempt to strive toward Excellence and certainly not Dignified or dedicated to Service. Their actions are anything but....this organization is going to find that patient care will be greatly affected and it will be our community that will suffer. I guess that's alright as long as they can still collect their bonus' and their huge salaries. |
