I was at Helen Putnam park today, a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The parking lot was completely empty. A couple of cars were parked down the street. A $6 fee to park your car kept everyone away. No kids in the shady playground. No hikers and runners on the trails. I miss the days when we didn't mind paying higher taxes so things like parks would be free. Taxes work much better than fees.

Well PetalumaBOB why should everyone pay more in taxes don't we pay enough now in taxes. Did you know it is that last weekend before many children return back to school. They are probably getting the last minute needed supplies. I guess PetalumaBOB must like giving more of his income to the losers in Sacramento and the City Council here in petaluma to just give away to attorneys. PetalumaBOB must not have a family to support and the wages in the Northbay do not equal the cost of living but hey lets just pay more. The wonderful state of California just changed the personal income tax rate now they take even more money out of my pay check so that equals less money I could spend to pay to park or do anything else needed.
It makes sense to pass the fees onto the users of the parks rather than everyone. $6 is a bargain for premium parking at the park, I doubt people will be discouraged if they really love the hiking/biking at that park and know their added fees will help it stay open. Just my opinion.
