It's not "where are you going on your vacation?". It's "where are you going on your staycation?".

Some ideas: KOA is nice for camping. Also some of the spots on Russian River are fun. Daytripping: Mt. Tam, Stinson, Doran Beach, Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park. Sonoma: Train Town is fun for the kiddies. Jack London State Park for hiking. And the cherry stand on Arnold has fantastic cherries for $1 per basket right now!

Any other thoughts/ideas?

Heh, my husband and I ended up taking a cross-country roadtrip last month. Gas total? Around $1200. We saved money by camping and packing our own food though, and the trip was worth it.

Staycation ideas? Biking (lots of scenic bike trails in local parks), Helen Putnam Park, borrowing DVDs and books from the public library, Jelly Belly factory, skating at that Snoopy arena (has anyone done this before? I moved here less than two years ago and haven't explored all the touristy stuff yet!). I really love Mt Tam / Muir Woods Smiler

If you haven't been up to the town of Windsor since they re-did their downtown area, it's worth it. Beautiful architecture. The town green park and surrounding streets feel like a mini-getaway.

Lots of shops, restaurants and also a Powell's. We had lunch at the diner behind Starbucks and the food and prices were excellent.

Whoops, I wasn't finished with that post....the name of that restaurant is KC's Downtown Grill. Supposedly the biggest and best breakfast in Sonoma County.

Many great things are north, russian river, armstrong woods, lake sonoma, all other 8 towns in this co. Jenner, all the so. co. coast, bodega bay and there is much more. Guess what you will keep all the money in our county w/ mostly local business' at the same time.

Train Town in Sonoma (on Broadway) if fun for the kids. Only 20 minutes over the hill. Check out the newly remodeled Friedman's a few yards away.
