PETALUMA SPANISH-ENGLISH DUAL IMMERSION PROGRAM APPROVED BY OLD ADOBE UNION SCHOOL BOARD

An exciting new program has been officially approved to begin in the Fall of 2009 at the Bernard Eldridge Elementary School. Children enrolled in the new program will receive education in both English and Spanish allowing them to achieve literacy in both languages.

The program will begin with two Kindergarten classes and one First grade class. These children will receive an ongoing Dual Immersion education throughout their enrollment at Bernard Eldridge (grades K through 6th).

Parents who are interested in the program are encouraged to register with the Bernard Eldridge Elementary School asap.

The school is currently accepting enrollment for open spots in both the Kindergarten and First grade classes. Students do not need to live within the Bernard Eldridge Elementary school attendance area. Students from out of district are encouraged to apply. If you live out of the area you may enroll your child by obtaining an Inter District or Intra District Attendance Agreement. You will receive this form when you register at Bernard Eldridge. Students will be served on a first come first served basis and by a waiting list if needed.

The benefits of dual immersion programs are many. Research has shown that this approach promotes high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and cross-cultural awareness. Fluency and literacy in a second language provide an economic advantage for students, while helping them become more open-minded and broadening their world perspectives. This program will help prepare our students to succeed within the global community of the 21st century
