As a parent of a child that attends La Tercera Elementary I am concerned. Swine flu hit our school back in September shortly after school started. However we never got word that it was in our school till back to school night 4weeks after school started. How is not notifying our school parents that there's even one case of the swine flu ok? ITS NOT!!! There were alot of angry parents that night and we were told that "we do not get letter sent home unless the swine flu hits our child's grade level" What kind of protection is that? Is it just me or do more parents agree with me that a standard letter should have been sent out stating the fact that the H1N1 had hit our school. Especially for those of us with children that have health issues like asthma and heart disease like my child. He could die if he gets the swine flu 10times more likely than a normal healthy child. This makes me very mad that they would rather keep things on the hush hush to not have parents keeping their kids home.

In my child's school there is a new schedule they are trying this year, sort of like middle school where you switch classes. Well this means more germs are going in more places because each child goes to three different classrooms throughout the day. Yes hand washing helps, and reminding them to cough into their elbow but the virus is airborne so that just trippled my child's chance of getting this virus if even one child in his class or the other two classes have the H1N1. We finally got the note of "a student in your child's grade has the H1N1" sent home to us 2weeks ago and so far so good, but as a parent I can't help but worry about him everyday he is in school.

I think the schools should be REQUIRED to notify ALL parents in their school of any type of virus such as the H1N1 especially since it is a deadly virus to children and children with health issues. Who is with me on this one?

H1N1 is everywhere. It's in your child's school, it's in your grocery store, it's at the movie theater and it's at the mall.

You can guarantee that every school in Petaluma has at least one active case of H1N1. You'll go a long way toward preserving your sanity if you learn what you can about the virus and take reasonable precautions.

The bottom line here is that it's a flu, and influenza kills thousands of people in this country every year. Sure, this one is a bit different, but it's still a flu. There isnt much you can do apart from practicing basic preventative measures.

Personally, I'd send my child to school after knowing an active case were to exist in her class.

Almost all the flu is swine flu this year. Don't worry almost everyone gets over it like the regular flu. Yes it is in your school, it is in all of them. If you know anyone who has had the flu this year, there's an 80% chance it was swine flu.
