What a scary thought. Glass is not the same person we had as mayor a few years ago. He has become a small minded, petty and vindictive preson who uses the council microphone to chastise anyone who disagrees with him. We need someone who will treat our citizens with respect.
Agreed. He no longer possesses the temperateness and deliberateness to be our mayor. Unfortunately, he has transformed into an angry person. His propensity for misstating facts and dividing people is alarming.
If ever there was a time for all Petaluma’s to get out and vote. Mr Glass believes in his mind that he knows what has caused the current economic crisis and that it will not be corrected with new development so why rush. Well Mr Glass I believe that it is, the lets wait and see attitude, which has ushered in these harsh economic times. I contend that if it was easier to get approval and more land was available to build then the end pricing would be substantial less than it is with our harsh land use restrictions. The simple truth is shelter and its cost is what places the most pressure on employers and salaries. Please read this paper written By JOHN M. QUIGLEY AND STEVEN RAPHAEL on the true cost of California housing. I am not holding David responsible for this crisis but I believe he needs to get a better understanding of the root cause of our economic malaise. We can not afford to stick our head in the sand any longer. As is always true for every action there is a reaction. The actions of one sided market manipulation have failed. We are all paying too much for homes, businesses are paying too much for the rent and of course we are the ones that pay there rent in the cost of consumer items we purchase.
Excellent news! David Glass will be an excellent Mayor – as we was before. He's a strong advocate for sustainable development and has a clear understanding of the needs to balance competing interests in step with the majority of our residents and long term growth plan for our city. He wisely has expressed concerns about new development when existing structures remain empty, and has been a consistent advocate for bringing in much needed tourist revenue. He did a great job with ensuring wise development of the theatre district and has an excellent track record on defending the voter mandated measure D to preserve open space – while working with developers to balance their needs as well. He's being unfairly criticized by some on this board as not being the same person he was as Mayor – true, he's now even wiser and more experienced.
Petaluma Defender, you are in the minority on this thread. Frankly, I believe that all the folks in our city government (and for that matter at all levels of government these days) are out for their own gain/self interest.
Career politicians do not make for a better government. They just serve the interests that pay them off the most which usually is not for the greater good of the community.
We, as a city, need fresh blood. Leaders that will lead and work on the future, so Petaluma can be strong (financially) and not in deep trouble. Glass needs to go. He's just more of the same old thing. He has a bad attitude and he failed as mayor before. Maybe the best thing is that Pam gets elected so she's out of the city's way.
